Diversity Program
By GMikeG | September 19, 2007
My role in cube land is somewhat amorphous; I kind of make it up as I go. Although this can be a gossamer existence, the upshot is I get to re-invent myself every day. Today I was asked to respond to a request for proposal on behalf of the Human Resource department. The potential client asked us to describe our Diversity Program. Since we don’t actually have a Diversity Program (we don’t need no stink’n diversity) I think it’s appropriate that HR come to Marketing to create a diversity program for them. Which leads us to Today’s Word.
Today’s Word is Diversity.
I decided that Diversity starts at home and I looked for examples in my fellow cube mates. Since I’m working for HR today I scanned the personnel folders and found that we do actually have a diverse work force. (You should visualize Disney’s “It’s a Small World After All” playing in a continuous loop in the background).
In cube number one we have a Web Developer. Although he is not exactly a recognizable minority he is in fact a unique individual. He fills our requirement to hire Polish Fire Fighting / EMT. As soon as he gets done reading the help menu, he will design our website.
In cube number two we find a working Mom. Apparently she was up all night helping her children through yet another ear infection. She is blond, blue eyed and apparently of Aryan descent. She fulfills our requirement to hire women with superior mental capacity that allows them to do their work in their sleep. She is actually sleeping on the commissions report. She will absorb the information by osmosis and when awakened, she will spit out the correct percentages due each salesperson through out the country. Either she is a remarkably diverse talent or an idiot savant.
In cube number three we find an Indian Princess / Swami / Marketing Communications Specialist. She meditates for 7 hours a day. While in her trance she transcends to a higher plane of existence and communicates with the other yogis in our company. The other hour of the day you can find her teaching fellow employees transcendental meditation in the kitchen.
I ask you, how much more diverse can you get?
And that’s our word for the day.
